About Us
Megan Weed
Hi there! My name is Megan. I am the owner and founder of Mainely Hounds LLC. Since I was a child you could always find me sitting on the floor kissing the dogs! Not much has changed. They are still my first true love.
I am dog mom to 2 amazing Vizlsas - Mulligan and Finnigan and my Pitbull/GSP, Tallulah… They are the reason I have chosen this path.
I have a number of years of hands-on experience caring for animals in my home or in theirs. I’ve personally owned the perfect happy-go-lucky family dog to the fear-aggressive dog to experiencing the growing pains of raising a puppy. In caring for a variety of animals and working with trainers over the years I realized training and understanding dog behavior became a passion of mine so I could give my dogs the best life possible despite their rough start.. I always considered working with dogs a “hobby” and then one day I met a wonderful trainer who inspired me to take a leap of faith. I left my 9-5 and became a certified dog trainer. I have since taken multiple courses and continue to increase my knowledge and understanding of our furry best friends with any class I can get my hands on. You can never learn too much. I am so grateful to be able to learn from and work alongside some incredible people. I can’t wait to meet you and your best friend!
P.S Tell your dog I said hi!
Mulligan
Mulligan is a pure-bred Vizsla. He came from a puppy mill in North Dakota and was brought here by a breeder in northern Maine. Unfortunately he did not fit in with her pack and had to be rehomed. I was his third home in three years. Mulligan suffered from separation anxiety and fear aggression. I have been working with him for the past several years and he is NOT the same dog I brought home. I am so proud of the dog he has become! He finally found his forever home and we’ve been loving him ever since. He loves to show us how happy he is and asks us to watch him do Zoomies around the backyard.
Finnigan
Finnigan is a pure-bred Vizsla from our home state of Maine who was rescued from a backyard breeding situation. He was covered in fleas, underweight, and starving for love. He is our quirky little derpy boy and, in true Vizsla form, follows you wherever you go. His favorite hobby is stalking squirrels and chipmunks. He will always greet you with a stuffy. At night he will steal your heart (and your blankets) with his cuddles.
Tallulah
Tallulah is an American Pitbull Terrier, German Shorthaired Pointer mix. She was found abandoned on the side of the road at 4 months old with her sisters and brought to a high kill shelter. The loving hands of Sam at Adventure Hounds in North, Carolina scooped her up and provided her a safe space until she came here. She was nicknamed “trembles” as she was terrified of EVERYTHING and always shook. Flash forward a few months and she is thriving while learning how to be a dog following her brothers wherever they go. She is always up for an adventure and enjoys coming to dog camp.
